True Secrets of Freemasonry

Those who become Freemasons only for the sake of finding out the secret of the order, run a very great risk of growing old under the trowel without ever realizing their purpose. Yet there is a secret, but it is so inviolable that it has never been confided or whispered to anyone. Those who stop at the outward crust of things imagine that the secret consists in words, in signs, or that the main point of it is to be found only in reaching the highest degree. This is a mistaken view: the man who guesses the secret of Freemasonry, and to know it you must guess it, reaches that point only through long attendance in the lodges, through deep thinking, comparison, and deduction.

He would not trust that secret to his best friend in Freemasonry, because he is aware that if his friend has not found it out, he could not make any use of it after it had been whispered in his ear. No, he keeps his peace, and the secret remains a secret.

Welcome to the Light

Today is Monday, September 10, 2007, and after really ignoring blogs for the past few years, I decided that today will be the day that I join the 21st century. After all, I am a computer nerd, I teach computer software, document applications and training material, and work as a project manager IN the IT field.

Some personal history:

I was raised a master mason in Riverside Lodge #635 on 3 November 2001 by Wr. Lee Cleveland, my father, Robert Dunn, and my uncle, Wr. James W. Dunn. I was immediately seated in the Junior Deacon's Chair, and installed as the Junior Deacon in March of 2002 after returning my Regular Form master mason's proficiency and qualifying to sit the chair.

At the same time, because of my experience with computers, I was asked to chair the lodge Child ID committee, and eventually, to chair the district Child ID committee as well. More on the awesome Child ID program from the Grand Lodge of California later. In October, 2005, I was invited to join the Grand Lodge Child ID committee, in which position I still serve the Grand Lodge of California.

On 10 December 2005, I was installed as Master of Evergreen Masonic Lodge in Riverside, California. Four years, 46 days after being raised, I was installed in the Oriental Chair of Evergreen Lodge #259.

Today, I publish the Lodgeroom International Magazine, a digital publication offered for the benefit of the craft on a monthly basis since January 2006. I am also an administrator of the Lodgeroom US part of The Lodgeroom International group of forums.

I am currently employed in a part of the world where Freemasonry is illegal, and it is an interesting experience to be living, in many ways, as the early Masons did before going public at the Goose and Gridiron in London, in June, 1717. More on that later as well.

Welcome to my blog.

Best wishes WB Dunn.

FWIW,I was installed Master of Rocky River #703 2 years, 5 months, 27 days after being raised a Master Mason and that's a sad metric really --it should have been like 7 years in a healthy Lodge.
